Bathroom Lighting for your Home Decorating Project

If you are redesigning your bathroom then think carefully about the type of lighting you need for this small but very important room. Bathroom lighting is often neglected when it comes to home decoration, consider ceiling lights, wall mounted fixtures, vanity and mirror lighting, even table lamps and candles can provide effective lighting in a bathroom.

One of the main lighting features in your bathroom to get right is around the bathroom mirror. They need to be bright enough to enable you to see exactly what you are doing, but not too bright that they glare and don't do your looks any justice! Mirrors are available with the lights already inset around the edges using LED or xenon bulbs or halogen lamps suitable for moist locations. Placing sconces either side of the mirror, or a single, horizontally placed wall light above it can light up the whole room, and if the mirror extends right up to the ceiling, there are wall sconces that can be mounted directly onto it.Shower proof downlighters are a great way to light up shower cubicles, find them in circular satin silver, antique brass or chrome finish, or square shaped contemporary glass and chrome for a really stunning look.Proper lighting in your bathroom can actually help you to look better! Glaring lights show up all the imperfections and lumpy bumps we all have, a softer lighting system can make you look good which in turn will give you a great feeling for the day ahead. As your bathroom can also act as your safe haven then it's necessary to have some softer lighting fixtures, bright enough to see by but soft enough to create an ambience. If the room is big enough for a small table or cabinet then it's a nice idea to place a lamp on top to provide a softer light that can be used instead of the main overhead light. Light some candles, turn on the soft lighting and steam up a hot bath, sit back and relax.Get some idea of the styles and possibilities first, you can do this by looking online or through home decorating magazines. A bathroom is not only a place to bathe, pluck and preen, it's also a great place to escape from the outside world for a while imagine yourself relaxing in a nice hot bath with soft lighting and a glass of wine and de-stress after a hectic day.Bright lighting is the first priority for your bathroom as it's needed to prepare your body to present to the outside world, you don't want to get to work and have people pointing out that you have missed a spot whilst shaving. Or realize there are hairs sprouting from your nose! Every woman wants to look good and applying make up has to be done under a bright enough light to see clearly. We all spend a long time in the bathroom checking ourselves out so don't rush into your decorating scheme, think about how the space can be most effectively lit up and search online for a lighting company who can offer advice and give you a good price. Incorporating effective lighting in the bathroom is the most economical way to upgrade, a well-thought out bathroom lighting system can even help you sell your house if that is your intention.Bathroom flush lights for the ceiling are practical and an elegant way to illuminate a room, they provide enough light to see clearly and come in a range of shapes and sizes. Flush light styles are generally quite simple which is a good look for a bathroom, but fixtures have their own unique style and, although modest, they can really enhance the look of the room. Mounted close to the ceiling they are perfect for low-ceilings and are available in low-voltage halogen, incandescent, and fluorescent options.

Home Decorating Using eBay

You almost have to be from another planet these days to not be familiar with the term 'eBay". The growth of online auction houses and eBay in particular has been phenomenal. At last count eBay has almost 150,000 registered users, 50,000 categories and over 400 million listings.

Question until you are satisfiedFollow these guidelines and you can confidently purchase any item you could possibly want for your home decorating project. So go ahead, take the plunge into the world of online auction bidding and buying. Redecorate with style and amaze your family and friends with your one of a kind decorating items and rare finds. The second most important key is to research the vendor. To find a member, click on the "Advanced Search" button. From there click on "Find a Member" button in the left column and enter the seller's eBay user ID/name. You will be brought to the seller's "About Me" page. From here there are all types of information available for your research.Research the VendorYou can also click on the item you are interested in.As you look at other various similar items, notice the information given in the description. This will give you an idea what type of information should be included in the description. If there is some information in a similar description that is not included in the description of the item you are considering, don't hesitate to ask for that information. When you make a decision to jump in and get your feet wet at eBay, these are the two most important points to remember in order to enjoy the experience and have maximum satisfaction with your purchase. If you are considering redecorating or just starting to decorate your home, it could be almost impossible not to find whatever it is you are looking for. In fact, you may find many new ideas and items of interest you never even thought about. This may send you off in an entirely new direction you hadn't ever considered.Shopping for home decorating items on eBay should be an experience you should have at least once. It is as if a world wide bazaar was spread out at your feet. If you had access to Aladdin's lamp, you would not get a wider array of goods available to you. If you are new to eBay, start with small, inexpensive and easily shipped items.Believe me, the vendors only want to satisfy buyers. They do not want the hassle of returned merchandise. You may be surprised to learn you can get more product information from an eBay vendor than you can obtain in a nearby retail store. There are two keys to an enjoyable eBay shopping experience:Once you receive your purchase, look it over carefully to be sure it was presented accurately and you are satisfied with your purchase. Most vendors will bend over backward to keep their buyers happy and returning with more business. The high rating they have worked hard to achieve is important to them. They certainly don't want any negative feedback bringing that rating down.Question, question, questionThis will bring you to the description page. In the right hand column is the info about the seller. The name, number of comments (listed next to the star), and feedback info is there. The most important information you will be looking for is customer feedback. A feedback rating in the high 90's will assure you will have excellent customer service and be satisfied that your purchase is exactly as it was pictured and described. The descriptions and pictures are often very detailed and accurate. However, you still may have unanswered questions. Don't hesitate to contact the vendor and ask questions until you feel you have all the information you need to make a bid or purchase. You may find you are having such a great time that you may never shop for your home decorating items in a retail store ever again!

Home Decorating For Smaller Spaces

Big Things Come In Small Packages Were all familiar with this quote, its normally associated with gifts not home decorating, but it should be.

Another decorating challenge can be in warming up your new place. This normally can easily be achieved by adding color with paint. Now thats all fine and good unless you happen to be renting and your landlord says Paint, oh no. Thats ok; color can be added in a number of other ways. Several examples:
  • Window treatments
  • Furniture fabric
  • Accent pillows
  • Area rugs
  • Wall art
  • Plants & Flowers
  • Plastic shelving units, which can be found in most discount stores, are perfect for mounting on the backs of doors or on the wall in closets. These come in especially handy in the kitchen for holding extra soda bottles, canned goods, paper towel etc. One interesting things I have found from past experience is that decorating a smaller place is actually easier, not to mention less expensive.
  • Place an armoire intended for the bedroom in the living room its the perfect storage place for remotes, magazines, extra bedding, kitchen linen or any of those pesky little things you just cant seem to find a place for.Storage can be another issue in a smaller space, there just never seems to be enough. If youre buying new furniture or deciding on which pieces to bring from your current home, look for ones that can perform double duty.
  • Plastic storage boxes come in a variety of sizes, colors and are inexpensive. They can be stacked on shelves in a closet or cabinet, even into drawers. Clear smaller sizes are perfect storage for shoes, winter gloves, pictures or how about extension cords, nails, packages of hooks or hand tools. Larger sizes can keep extra winter coats, blankets, odd season clothes or seasonal decorations neat and in one place. This article is shareware. Give this article away for free on your site, or include it as part of any paid package as long as the entire article is left intact including this notice. Copyright 2004 bonnie carrier.
  • Decorative stacking boxes or even old suitcases not only make for great storage, but the also become terrific accessories.A one or two bedroom house, apartment, condo or townhouse can be just as impressive and grand as something with fifteen bathrooms, Wow, imaging having to clean all those, I have enough trouble with two.
  • Instead of the standard coffee table, look for one with a flip top or shelves underneath. Cedar chests, blanket chests or trunks can also be substituted.
  • Kids rooms are always in need of extra places for all their treasures, plastic milk crates are perfect for them. They come in many bright brilliant colors. One suggestion, if you are planning on stacking the crates and have small children it would be beneficial to secure them to the wall.
  • Baskets and hampers are another option.Whether your currently living in a small space or downsizing thats another one of those trendy buzz words, which simply means your moving into something smaller planning how your going to decorate or redecorate is a good idea.Moving into and decorating a small space can be challenging, but with a little planning it can be just a beautiful as any large house. And in the end size really doesnt matter, if its filled with the people and things you love, then you have successfully created a home. For example:
    • A small floor cabinet you might have used in a bathroom can become an end table. Most of these come with drawers, shelves or both. This also applies to accessories; its better to have a few large dramatic pieces as opposed to a lot of small items, which can tend to turn into clutter and dust collectors. The exception to this would be with collections. But again you want to have places to showcase them like glass front hutches, cabinets, bookcases or shelves.Well, I think youve gotten the idea, look around and use your imagination; you will be surprised with what you can come up with.

Softline Home Fashions Inc. Celebrates a Decade of Success

Founders and CEOs Jason and Rodney Carr mark their 10-year anniversary of Softline Home Fashions Inc. ( www.softlineonline.com ) on August 17, 2011. With more dynamic innovation than ever before, the brothers are sure to keep their brand at the forefront of the industry.

But which colors work best with gray? Just about any. Here are a variety of color pairings and products that can create truly striking results:Add plenty of texture . Neutral colors and schemes look best when enhanced with texture. Gray works especially well applied to apparel textures inspired by sweaters, heavily washed t-shirts, corduroy or linen. Balance flat and glossy . Save shiny grays for smaller areas: draperies, pillows or a leather sofa. Flat paint finishes, rather than glossy, add sophistication -- so avoid a too-metallic look. Flat gray paint is also good for hiding fingerprints and smudges. Use a variety of light sources . Gray is the color of a shadow; avoid adding more with poorly lit rooms or heavy-looking light fixtures. Add plenty of table lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces or see-through, lightweight pendants and chandeliers.Softline continues to cater to the expanding needs of its clientele with showrooms in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, and Montreal. The pivotal decade is marked with an exclusive licensing agreement with GuardIn, advanced fabric technology unlike any other in the market today. GuardIn employs all-natural technology to remain anti-microbial flame-resistant, and stain/water repellent on Softline's already eco-luxurious fabrics under their Evidence of Evolution brand. Softline Home Fashions' products are distributed not only to top retailers within the United States and Canada; it is also exported to Mexico, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Australia and South America.

Decorating With Gray: It May Be the New "Neutral" but It's Anything but Dull

When you think of decorating with neutral tones -- visions of beiges, crèmes and browns generally come to mind. But more and more, gray is becoming the "neutral" of choice for people who desire a powerful, but not-overwhelming look that can be combined with almost any color for eye-popping results in home décor.

Greens . Mix a zesty yellow-green with deep gray for a fresh, updated look. This dramatic contrast is visible in Ashley's Freestyle Pewter Sectional . DIY, Holiday Creative Project, Beautiful Baubles , Elegant Ornaments

    Elegant ornaments

Spanish:While country is a rather general term, it actually depicts a class of pieces a little higher than primitive. Such as antique cotton quilts, Hoosier cupboards, stoneware bowls, enamelware and wooden dovetailed boxes. Wood and cotton fabrics seem prevail in Country Decorating.Hands-on time: Less than two hours per dozen.Decorative wire in 22 to 25 gaugeMaterials & tools:Old world: Apply adhesive sizing randomly around the ball and follow the leafing steps as above. The leafing will only stick to the areas where the medium was applied. Apply a length of Terrifically Tacky Tape around the center of the ball. For a gleaming touch, sprinkle iridescent flakes over the tape and gently pat it.maddy@maddylane.comGive older ornaments a renewed look by sprucing them up using the same supplies in order to blend in with your new ornaments. Each year make and add new styles of ornaments to your collection. Make extra ornaments to give as gifts to friends, teachers and relatives. This term comes from the designs of the 20's, 30's and early 40's. Lines were elegant, streamlined and angular. Vibrant colors were predominant. Neon, chrome and other metal furnishings, bakelite plastics and inlayed furniture were popular for the Art Deco period. Our bliss lasted for almost two years until my husband was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia. Fortunately the company let us fly there ahead of time to check the place out and I could see right away that in the colonial style homes we looked at, country cottage home decor would never do. My husband came to an agreement with his company, that instead of paying for the movers to transport our furniture, they would give him a lump sum.The stylings of certain geographical areas are popular because they make a nice fit with our own region or because of an enviable ambiance wed like to capture for ourselves.*(all above items are available at arts and craft supply stores)In less than twelve month he got his degree and was recommended by his professor to a company in Pasadena, California.Assorted beadsCost estimate: Less than $10.00 for a dozen.Glistening swirl: Simply dab a colour of Vitrail paint around a glass ball using a sea sponge. Once dry, apply a band of rice paper with a swirl pattern at the center of the ball with Mod Podge. Apply glitter glaze around the ball. Wrap a piece of coloured wire around the cap of the ball and decorate the ends with beads.Cottage Country:As soon as our lease was up, we moved into a house on a steep hillside. We used the furniture we had, even though it looked somewhat out of place. Going around to flea markets and buying items without thinking whether they would fit in with what we had, did not help. At the same time my husband inherited his uncle's collectible knives, swords and sabers. They presented a real challenge for me. What was I to do with home decor like that? Mother Nature soon took care of my dilemma. The house and most of what we owned was burned in the Bel Air fire. With great pleasure I acquainted myself with colonial style home decor, sat in the empty rooms envisioning what to put where and in the end came up with a truly elegant period masterpiece. What a delight it was to entertain in that house. This is a style that most people use. It is a combination of many styles. Just choose your favorite pieces to combine into a style all your own.We found a lovely cottage style home. Once again I was absolutely thrilled to be able to start decorating from scratch, since we had brought nothing with us. I went through the routine of sitting in different corners of the empty rooms and envisioned what, of the things I had seen in magazines and home decor stores, would look good in that house. I settled on country cottage style home decor and in the end, of all the homes we had lived in, this one, still today, was the one we felt most comfortable and at home in.Prepare the glass surface for painting by washing the balls thoroughly with soap and water and wipe dry.Micro beadsEclectic:Whimsical:Copper leafing and adhesive size by Renaissance Foil, DetlaHere was my chance to start all over again and this time I intended to make the home decor match the house. We rented a bungalow with a slanting roof, dark, exposed beams and lots of windows. We moved in with just a few borrowed necessities and stacks of home decor magazines and books. As I saw pictures of things that appealed to me, I would sit in different corners of the empty room I wanted to furnish and envisioned those things in place. It was a great method to decide on my selection. Lime green and lemon yellow were very much in fashion then and probably would have looked ghastly in any of the other dwellings we had had. But in that house, with the dark beams, dark oak flooring and big windows framed by citrus trees, I could envision that it would look nice. And it did. It was a delightful home. This year, deck the halls with beautiful ball creations in medleys of rich colours and styles. Make your own holiday ornaments to add among your cherished oldies and to treasure for years to come. Decorating the home with impressive ornaments has never been easier to achieve, utilizing only a handful of basic craft supplies. Glass ball ornaments with sophistication from eclectic to elegant designs are painted with brilliant colours and magnificently decorated with copper leafing, rice paper, beads, tassels and ritzed up with glitz. This is a style in which patterns are bold and bright, while using a lightly colored background. Use neutral coloring for walls and furniture, but add bright splashes of color in accessories. Colors included should be such as fushia, deep purple and teals. Abstracts and vinyl will compliment a Contemporary decor.I should have known that it would not last but must admit that I said yes faster than my husband when his boss offered him a job in Nepal. We had no idea what to expect in that country. Things seemed primitive compared to what we were used to but we loved it. We found a rather grand looking house where the water pipes and electrical lines were all outside the walls. The fuse boxes were right by the entrance so that everybody could see that this house was modern enough to have such luxuries. The floors were naked cement and there was no heating. Sitting in corners of the empty rooms to envision them furnished did not do it here either, since there were no stores where one could just go and buy furniture. Simple beds, with hemp cords strung between the sides and badly made whicker chairs were all one could buy ready made. Other expatriates advised us to get pictures of home decor we would like to have and take them to a carpenter who may or may not come up with something similar. We did and also found a place in the bazaar where we could order coir carpeting. It did not look like much but felt invigoratingly rough under bare feet. Dishes, cutlery and whatever else one needs in a home also were of ghastly quality, but it did not matter, nobody else had anything better, except for embassy staff, who got everything shipped in. Slowly the pieces of furniture we had ordered were delivered and little by little the place started to look like a home. Finally we could reciprocate for all the many invitations we had accepted from ex pats and local people alike. We might not have had the home decor we would have liked but since the electricity often failed anyhow, by candlelight it did look delightful. Besides, we had one of the best cooks in Katmandu and visitors told us that they would have come to eat his food, had the house been empty.Rustic:Basic tools needed; wire cutter, scissors, painters tape, a sea sponge and assorted paintbrushes, and metal glueMediterranean:Traditional:Beaded Rococo: Pour assorted metallic Porcelaine 150 paints into applicator bottles, one for each different colour. Using one colour at a time, squeeze the bottle to release paint along the sides of the ball, letting some of the colours overlap and some areas free of drippings. Let it dry and set for 48 hours. Garnish the ball with a band of colourful micro beads using Terrifically Tacky Tape. For an elaborate cap finish use fuzzy wool and bead accents.Sparkle Glaze by DeltaAfter that it was great to move into a house near Los Angeles, California, which I shared with my sister. Without much planning, we decided what we needed and went out to buy whatever appealed to us. As nice as the furniture had looked in the showroom, somehow, in that house it did not seem right. For one thing, it was much too massive and the colors clashed with the paint colors and window coverings. We did not have much time to stew over it since we both carried a full load of courses at the college and worked four hours after class and eight on Saturdays.. I do believe this term came from people that had large homes in the city, and traveled to their small country cottages for summer. Usually located near water, some nautical items should also be present such as shells and stones. Lightly covered windows, using gauzy fabrics will bring a Cottage Country feel.

Buy Home Decor to Suit your Home's Character

For the first nineteen years of my life I lived in the same town in my parents home. Whatever home decor there was interested me little, it was just there. Then I went to Italy for a year and lived with an Italian Duke and his family. They lived in a villa in Rome. There I noticed the home decor. The rooms were huge. The Duchess had a penchant for elaborate baroque wall mirrors. They were everywhere, with the rest of the home decor to match. Most days the gardener cut arms full of fresh flowers. I often helped to carry them because I liked to follow him around so that I could look at the classical art statue sculptures and fountains. They, and marble benches, strategically placed between the trees and flowers, were the garden decor. Since I liked to do it, it soon became my job to arrange the flowers in decorative vases. I had a free hand in placing them on tables, cabinets and plant stands. It wasn't exactly decorating, but it gave me a satisfying feeling to contribute something to those marvelous rooms.

While home decorating styles are as different as the individuals doing the decorating. While styles may vary from region to region, this is a very basic description of some decorating style terms.Reminiscent of ancient Greece. Use of pillars and columns in both interior and furniture designs. Mahogany wood, with brass inlays, marble table tops, tapestries and crystal chandeliers will be wonderful accents here.Skill: Easy to moderate.Variations;Vitrail and Porcelaine 150 paints by PboBeautiful baublesCountry:In all honesty this has to be the way my home is decorated. Here we are talking a mix of flea market finds, redone to suit the new owner. Comfortable, inviting, with character, are a few words to describe this new/old decorating style. Worn but comfy chairs covered with a old faded quilt, old trunks remade into coffee tables, baskets holding magazines and worn lace hung as a curtain.Attach a decorative string to the metal cap tips that come with the glass balls. It makes it easier to handle the balls while painting and practical to hang them for drying on an ornament stand or a coat rack with pegs.Yellows, blues, rooster collections, tiles on the floor and walls. When applied to interior design generally means a mix between elegant and rustic. Faded or whitewashed wood, blue, pink and yellow small prints and flowered fabrics, sunflowers in a dripware pitcher. These elements constitute French Country.Southwestern:If you live in a small space, decorating with ornaments is a fantastic way to add wonderment to your dcor without incorporating a huge tree. Smaller glass versions are perfect to jazz up tabletop trees and to create stylist floral arrangements. This is the log cabin type decor. Made from tree branches and trunks, rustic furniture is very popular. Red, green and black should be displayed in plaids with this look. When I think of rustic I think of bear skin rugs, antique snow shoes hanging on the wall, as well as other old woodsman tools and oil lamps. When decorating in a Rustic style, think cabin in the woods.Renaissance: Apply vertical stripes evenly spaced all around the ball with a fine point paintbrush using Porcelaine 150, Vermeil gold. For a majestic look apply rhinestones garnishes over the dried gold stripes using metal glue.

Few people move as much as I did. For them it is even more important, right at the beginning, to decorate their home to suit it's character. Having chosen what looks right then will still look right years later.

    House Decoration Styles

There are thousands of decorating themes in use around the world but only a handful have found there way into the mainstream of our part of the world. Here are the ones youll want to know about

Clear or frosted glass balls in assorted shapes and sizesPreparing the base of the glass ornaments:After one year I moved to Paris, France. Not much scope for home decorating there. I lived in a tiny furnished room, where the home decor consisted of a narrow bed, a pine wood chair, a wardrobe and a wood cabinet with a washbowl. A bare light bulb hung from the ceiling. All I added was a decorative mirror, a reading lamp and a crystal vase, which I kept filled with fresh flowers from the market.Oriental:Most oriental decor is sparsely furnished with dark wooden pieces standing out against light walls. Simplicity, balance and practicality are the words most used when describing Oriental decor. There is a colorful array of accessories that can be used to compliment, of course beautiful oriental rugs, jade, ivory, coral and onyx pieces, elephants and dragons, silk kimono, fans, teak and lacquered wooden pieces, delicate tea sets and silk prints.Aside from decorating a traditional Christmas tree, ball ornaments make distinguished decorations to beautify an entrance, a hallway, or to grace a mantel. Mixtures of solid colours or striped balls are simply splendid displayed in tall vases, large bowls or incorporated into a spectacular centerpiece.Classical:Paint the surfaces of the glass balls with a soft bristle paintbrush using Vitrail paints in your choice of colours from emerald, red violet to turquoise blues. I used a rich palette of crimson, brown, and burnt amber. Since these are decorative items only, I used Vitrail solvent based paints because the colours are brilliant and they dont need to be heat set. Once painted hang the balls to air-dry. They will dry within hours and be ready to decorate within a 48 hour period. Use a solvent base cleaner to clean your brushes well.http://www.maddylane.comEclectic paper collage; Painted glass balls are garlanded with assorted scraps of colourful and white rice papers. Use paper bits and pieces leftover from other holiday projects. Apply a coat of Mod Podge over the surface of the ball. Randomly apply and layer tiny paper pieces around the ball, leaving some areas exposed in order to see its colour. To secure the paper composition into place, apply a top coat of Mod Podge and let dry. Once dry apply a coat of sparkle glaze to make them glitter and glow.Baroque: Apply narrow painters tape to create two stripes on the bottom half of a glass ball. Apply adhesive sizing with soft paintbrush to the area between the tape stripes. Set the ball a side to allow the adhesive to become dry and tacky to the touch (15-60 minutes). Place and press copper leaf over the adhesive medium to adhere to the ball. Use a clean soft brush to secure the leafing into place and to remove excess pieces. Top off with a wire length fastened around the cap, bead the ends and add a tassel.A year later my husband decided to go back to college for his Masters Degree. We loaded what we could into our Volkswagen Bus, sold the rest of our belongings and headed for Austin, Texas, accompanied by two babies and a cat. Money was tight and home decor took a back seat to all else. Like so many student accommodations, ours had a lot of make-do furnishings. The bricks and boards book shelve, the milk crate and plywood tables and second hand sofas and beds. Our newborn slept in what used to be a packing box for toilet paper, nicely lined with colorful fabric. It didn't seem to matter. I devoted my time to my children. My husband devoted his time to his studies .Iridescent flakes, rhinestones, tassels, gold string and Fun wool for decorative accentsWe were supposed to go back to the United States after my husbands contract was up but even before that, his boss wanted him to transfer to Madras, India. By good fortune we found an almost new bungalow which had been build on stilts so as to not disturb the roots of a huge holy tree in front of it. The house was built in a square around a courtyard with a mango tree in the middle and all rooms had big glass double doors opening out to it. When I saw the place, I could immediately envision a garden theme and was glad to find fabrics with a lattice and bamboo design for the curtains and matching green upholstery for the sofas and chairs we had made. Even though it took many trips to the bazaar, and frequent reminders to the carpenters, eventually all the home decor complimented the garden feeling I had wanted to achieve. It was like living outdoors.Copyright MaddyLane Designs © 2006Belonging to or characteristic of an early stage of development, crude and rudimentary. Items in this category would include old wooden hay rakes, antique handmade rag dolls, and any other handcrafted antique items. This is a style that I particularly love: when I buy a primitive piece, I think of the hands that had lovingly crafted it, and the other hands that used it for whatever it was meant for. These things are not perfect or uniform, they are worn or stained.Characterized by rich brocades and velvets, both in furniture, walls and window dressings. Mauves, burgundies, rich blues and greens, along with lace and fringe compliment Victorian furnishings. Having chosen what looks right then will still look right years later. This style has classic elegance, created by using light, natural colors such as, gray, off white and beige together with dark blues, greens and burgundy. Florals, stripes, plaids and damasks are noted fabrics. With this style I see crystal candlesticks, china, framed landscapes and other more elegant pieces.Art Deco:Of course I was very sad about the loss, yet I was excited. After that we moved fourteen more times, always to different countries, all over the world, without ever bringing any furnishings with us. Each time I went through the same process of sitting in the empty rooms, envisioning the results I wanted to create, then finding the right home decor. The look was always perfect for that particular house.French Country:Victorian:Shabby Chic:Ribbons and fabric remnants make fabulous ornament embellishments. For a dazzling look use sequins, glitter glues, and old jewellery odds and ends. Modern and minimalist styles of ornaments can be made utilizing materials such as clay, foils, tinsel, wire, and mesh. For special effects make basic geometric shapes using textured or snow paints. For fine details or to inscribe your dinner guests names onto a personalized ornament use Porcelaine liners or markers by Pbo.Mod Podge by PlaidModern- futurist looking, concrete, stone, metal and glass. High tech comes to mind when thinking of this type of decor. Lots of open space, bright lighting, and square lines. The main colors are basic and cool, with splashes of bright colors. Abstract artwork will combine well with this decor as well as usual hand blown glass pieces.Contemporary:Primitive:Assorted colourful and white rice papersLight and fanciful. Bright colors and unusual patterns. Such as pink spotted fish, a wooden chair painted in several different colors and with several different patterns. I would consider Mary Engelbreits designs whimsical. Her use of different colors and different patterns on one piece are definitelyWhimsical and full of imagination.Think desert when thinking of this style. Adobe, leather, bold colors such as orange, burgundy, purple, bright turquoise, rustic furniture will mix well with this style also. Be sure to include silver items, lassos, cactus and maybe even a saddle.

In all honesty this has to be the way my home is decorated. Here we are talking a mix of flea market finds, redone to suit the new owner. Comfortable, inviting, with character, are a few words to describe this new/old decorating style. Your House As A Painting: What Art Can Teach You About Decorating Your Home

    Framing

Your dcor should exude your persona. Want it to appear spacious? Eliminate shadows with diffused, ambient lighting. Avoid ceiling lights which make the ceiling appear low. Your ceiling should always wear the lightest color in the room. Then the pastel shades on your wall would help create that feeling of largeness. Limit the use of patterns to accent pieces the discerning eye should not stop as it travels across the room. And if you want a cozy pad, do just the opposite use strong colors and heavy, soft textures. Draw attention to that precious grandfather clock with carefully directed light. And if you must, make up your bathroom in exquisite black and eliminate that permanently booked suite at New Yorks Windsor Hotel la Andrew Carnegie!Today artificial plants are widely used as home decor items for their exceptional features as compared to that of the live plants and flowers. They have achieved a huge popularity because of their little maintenance, long life and real look. They dont require any kind of watering, removal of dull leaves, adding of fertilizers, exposure to sunlight etc. to make look them fresh and beautiful. So if you are on tour or picnic you dont need to worry about your plants and when you return they will be as fresh as they were you when left the home. After the frame is set, and the composition and concept complete, a painter decides on a palette with which to colour his or her painting. A good palette is usually minimal, featuring perhaps three colours that are then used and mixed to create an artwork with a dominant colour scheme, and therefore a strong character. In a more general way, the rule of golden thirds leads away from static, unimaginative, and rigid symmetry by forcing the artist - or decorator - away from the very middle part of the composition.Oh, and remember to have fun, be creative, and feel free to break some rules after you learn them!Depending upon the creativity artificial plants or flowers are something more to use, rather than keeping them only in vase. You can place them on the wall with some support. Also they can be hanged on the handrail of the staircases, bookshelves and windows. They are available in plenty of remarkable designs and colors and hence easily mix ups with your home decor theme. In order to apply this concept to home decorating, visualize all the planes (floor, walls, ceiling) of a room, and use your imagination to "draw" the golden thirds across them. Then, try to concentrate your decorations along these lines. For example, establish a line one-third of the way down your living room wall, and use it as guide as to how high to hang a set of paintings or other wall hangings; or, "draw" a line two-thirds of the way across your kitchen floor and place your kitchen table overtop of it. Usually, you'll want to use one or two big elements, such as furniture, in combination with golden thirds so as to utilize the lines without making them obvious.Use home decorating tips to your advantage!PaletteIn a home, think of each room as a distinct painting, and the boundaries of each room as its frame. When decorating, keep these frames in mind, and decorate within - as opposed to through - them. In other words, keep the elements of one room's dcor clearly within that room. You may establish a theme for the entire house, or for one floor, or for one multi-room space, but do not blend rooms into each other. Keep each room clearly defined; keep each painting inside its frame. Make it clear where the kitchen ends, and where the living room begins.Although home decoration is a different art than painting, both are, indeed, still arts. Therefore, the methods, techniques and theories that have been perfected throughout history in painting can be quite easily adapted to fit decorating. As American music composer Lukas Foss said: "Most people think an artist tries to be original, but originality is the last thing that develops in the artist." So, even when no one notices that your beautiful new dining room is based on "a van Gogh", they won't miss that it's still beautiful - and that's all that matters.

Oh, and remember to have fun, be creative, and feel free to break some rules after you learn them!

Using Artificial Plants for Indoor Home Decorating

No place in this world is without flowers and plants. They are always a pleasure to see and the surrounding atmosphere becomes refreshing and energizing. However live plants are always very capricious and also require care and maintenance at a regular interval to look bright and fresh. In todays world people are so busy that one cant afford to give constant attention for such things. Due to this, artificial plants are huge in demands.

They are made from material like orchids, fibers, ficus trees etc. Indoor artificial plants will definitely add some color to your home decor making the overall theme outstanding. In home decoration, a palette can take the form of at least three things: colors, just as in a painting; specific objects, like a collection of spoons or a set of rugs; or themes or motifs, such as seashells for the bathroom or arches for a hallway. The key to using any one of these types of palettes is to pick elements that both fit a room by themselves and that provide ample opportunities for fruitful combinations. And, also keep in mind that because each room is "taken in" at once, it is more important to make sure that the palette in each room is solid than it is to make sure that, say, the rug in the living room matches the one in your bedroom.

Tasteful Home Decorating Changes Your House Into a Home

There is this undocumented story about Andrew Carnegie who kept postponing the decision to redecorate his home just because black, his default color of choice, was simply not used in home decorating those days! Mercifully today, you could well translate your home decorating ideas into alluring reality. For home interior decorating no longer means just coloring your walls in pastel shades and showing off your antiques it is about using all the home decorating tips that one can get to highlight the most of what one possesses. Unless of course you wish to shrug the opportunity and call in a professional designer. But even this experience could be fascinating what with "walk-throughs" in your "virtually" designed home before even a single coat of paint is applied! Yes, with home decorating, either way you always come up trumps!

One of the first rules (or, less strictly, guiding principles) of artistic composition is the rule of golden thirds: the simple concept that a composition's main focus should be located somewhere on a set of imaginary lines that criss-cross a canvas at the horizontal and vertical intervals of one-third and two-thirds.

The Seven Secrets To Home Decorating Success

Isn't it strange that you can go into two identical house both with warm friendly people living there and feel totally welcome and comfortable in one and in the other you can't wait to leave. What is your house saying about you?

Puzzled as to what style or theme you want to use? Make it a family fun decision. Go style shopping with your family, ending up in a favorite place for desert or snacks and discuss what your project will look like and say about your family.I have seen far too many homes where they spared no cost and decorated to the hilt. The result was a show place that you couldn't be comfortable in if you cared to try.The reason I put "don't sweat the cost" as the first secret is because that's the number one reason I have heard through the years that people don't decorate. It's too expensive!Secret #6. Keep It Simple!- Dining Area: Our dining room table is the focal point of our dining room. We have a long oak table that is great for seasonal decorating. A table runner makes a nice seasonal addition. I have one made out of Easter fabric for spring, a floral one for summer, and one of Christmas fabric. I just need to get one for autumn. You can accessorize with seasonal place mats, napkins, and napkin rings. These you can make yourself or pick up at yard sales or clearance sales off-season. I also like to decorate the center of the table for the season. A lot of times I will use a vase of seasonal flowers. For autumn I have a vase of artificial fall foliage. I accent the vase with Indian corn, gourds, and artificial fall leaves.- I store my seasonal decorations in several large stackable Rubbermaid containers: two for Christmas, one for Easter/spring, and one for autumn/Thanksgiving. When I'm ready to change themes, I get out the one(s) to put things away in, dust or otherwise clean the area(s) where the new decorations will sit, and then get out the new decorations. The storage containers get put back away, and everything is still organized for next season. Make sure you mark the containers in some way to know which one is which. Color coding them buy buying different colored containers works well.Secret #2. Decorate For Your Family! If you find the task of re-decorating your entire home overwhelming, look for certain areas of your home that would be good for displaying seasonal decorations. In my home the kitchen, dining room, and living room are the focal areas of our home. There are certain areas where I concentrate when decorating for the seasons:- Kitchen: I don't do a lot of seasonal decorating in the kitchen, but there are a couple of easy things you can do to liven it up a little. Seasonal dish cloths and hand towels are really cute, as well as seasonal floor mats. If you use the towels for decoration only, like hanging from your oven door handle, they will still be nice for the next year. Seasonal refrigerator magnets are also easy to update. When the family is not involved in the decorating they resent the intrusion into their space and will throw little "monkey wrenches" into the project to show their resentment.- You will inevitably forget to put something away and stumble across it when you're cleaning another day. In each bathroom I have a corner of a closet shelf reserved for miscellaneous seasonal decorations. Or if someone gives you a seasonal gift you don't have anywhere else to put at the moment, this is a good place to put it.What's the difference? The most common gifts that are related to Asian home decorating is Chinese Dragons which generates positive energy in your house as well as helps in keeping the bad spirits away from your house. Asian home decorating, Money Frogs are used to increase the treasures and success in your house. Generally made of agate or jade these frogs are the symbol of good fortune which comes with your intelligence and hard work. An Asian Crystal globe of Asian home decorating is used for ensuring healthy state of body and mind. This crystal ball is the most well known cure which stimulates positive energy in the house when rays of sun fall on it. Along with these, various other animal figures found in Asia like jade horses are also used for this purpose.Have you ever been to a house where it was decorated to such a degree that you felt uncomfortable? You don't know where to sit because you don't want to disturb the starched look. You sure couldn't feel comfortable in your "funkies" in this room. You sit on the end of the chair hoping you don't wrinkle the fabric.I know you have been to a place like that, so have I, far too many times. You just want to get out of there so you can relax.- Living Room: The main areas of the living room I concentrate on are the fireplace mantel and hearth, a corner curio shelf, and the entertainment center. I lay a garland across the top of the entertainment center that can be changed with the seasons: fall foliage for autumn, flowers for spring and summer, and evergreens for winter. On the shelves of the entertainment center and the curio shelves I rotate my seasonal knickknacks. The last place I decorate is the top of the piano. Sometimes I just decorate with houseplants and photographs, but it is also a great place to showcase collections, like my angels at Christmas or my bunny village in the spring. I also have a piece of fabric draped over the piano that I can change with the seasons.Secret #7. Have Fun with Your Decorating!- Other: Window clings are great for any season. Door wreaths can also be rotated any time of year. My grapevine wreath goes up in the autumn and is soon replaced by my Christmas wreath. You could have one for every season. Although I don't have one yet, a lot of people have seasonal flags or banners displayed outside of the house. These you could buy or make yourself.Let your humor show through. A couple of pillows with your favorite sayings will liven up a room in short order. If it looks starchy to you it will look 10 times more starchy to your visitors and friends.Secret #3. Get the Family Involved In the DecoratingYou could have the best looking house in the neighborhood but if you over spent on decorating and your family is feeling the pinches for doing so you will resent the beautiful surrounding. When the family is involved in the decorating project you create family memories that will last lifetimes and be talked about at family gatherings for years to come.Asian home decorating is also available in the Patio furniture style in the market and there is something that fits to every house. This style is very attractive and has been used constantly as a traditional decorative in the houses. Its popularity can be proved from the fact that even the western culture is slowly getting inclined towards the Asian Home Decoration.Secret #5. Over Spend Not!Your resentment will show in how you take care of the room as well as your attitude about the room. This attitude will spill over and your house will lose that warm cozy feeling that is portrayed by those living there. Two identical houses sit side by side on the same street. The people living in both houses are friendly people the type you would like to get to know better. Enter one house and you feel comfortable and welcome, enter the second and from the moment you enter you feel uncomfortable and on edge. Whats the difference?

Home decorating should be exciting for all the family. What you decorate today you will replace with a new "thingie" tomorrow. Have fun with your decorating. Your humor and good taste will speak volumes about you and your family to visitors and friends.
